Behind this contemporary facade lies the 1910 First State Bank Building. Yes, this building at 804 Water Street dates to 1910 and is therefore more than a century old. Some original details are contained within.
The First State Bank moved from its earlier location on Tchoupitoulas Street (now Sidney Baker) to this spot in 1910. In 1964 the bank tore down the neighboring building at 802 Water Street, expanded, and modernized, covering over original details. As the saying goes, you can't judge a book by its cover.
